The photo was taken in May of 2020 in Flatbush, Brooklyn at a George Floyd protest. It was taken about midway through the protest after leaving Prospect Park.
I had been travelling at the front of the group and happened to turn around and see a young girl with her fists raised high surrounded by a group of adults. And this is at a time where everyone is wearing masks, so we have a tendency to observe the eyes a little more intensely; and I saw her eyes, and her eyes were speaking a thousand words to me.
So, I took the picture and, ironically, I didn't realize until I was editing in posts that she was crying... so it was [a] very emotional photo to me and very meaningful. And I hope that whoever has an opportunity to see it has the message - or has *a* message - conveyed to them.
