My name is Adreinne Waheed. In this image I call We 'Bout Done Bein' Peaceful.
This was taken August 24, 2020 in Times Square, just one day after Jacob Blake, an unarmed black man, was shot in the back at point-blank range in front of his children by police.
The anger, the pain, the frustration was palpable that day as we gathered at the red stairs. The gentleman pictured in front had just given an impassioned speech where he fought back tears as he said, "I'm 'bout done bein' peaceful!"
We'd marched for George Floyd. We'd marched for Breonna Taylor. We'd marched for so many black bodies taken at the hands of white supremacy and systemic racism. And now here we were marching for Jacob Blake. So as we took to the streets to march down Broadway, I was able to capture this image which I believe encapsulates the feeling of that day.
