This march was in response to the terrible shooting of Jacob Blake, and what I can remember was an intense desire to do something, ya know - by any means, to get to the streets and to ultimately occupy and make our presence known. And that started in Time Square. But, eventually, as we moved on and marched through the city, it ended in Washington Square Park.
And I can just remember this moment of all of us in sort of like a prayer circle. And we were trying to think about and remember those of us we've lost... And there he is: there's this guy in a mask - most likely an organizer of some sort - standing behind a Pride flag, no less, and he's looking up.
And, ya know... god only knows what he's thinking about, but I'm assuming it's about justice, and I'm assuming it's a prayer that justice will come soon. And ultimately I think that that prayer for justice is universal, and I think that translates in the photo.
