At 6 minutes to 7pm on Saturday, June 6th - after spending five hours at Washington Square Park watching the largest protest I think I've ever seen anywhere in New York City - I was stunned leaving to see the IFC theater closed. Seeing it boarded up and seeing in huge letters, "BLACK LIVES MATTER" and right above it, "WE'LL BE BACK SOON / BLACK LIVES MATTER".

And it was fitting, as if to say, "Entertainment is taking a break. Black lives matter. We need to board up the place because Black lives matter. We need to stop. Black lives matter. Black lives are more important right now, in this moment, than anything else."

And seeing this White man standing there just taking it all in after being out there every day of seeing people of all different races coming up to protest...

It struck me: out of all the other pictures that I took that day of the faces of the people of anything, just this one man in that one moment taking it in in New York City...

Black. Lives. Matter.
