So, this photograph was taken on June 9th, 2020 in midtown Manhattan amidst the George Floyd protest. They started at Washington Square Park, and then we moved down towards Lower Manhattan. At this point in the photograph, everybody was taking a break to kneel, drink water if they needed to... But, in the meantime, the police were on the sidewalk pretty much following everybody.

So, the subject in the photo, he's looking at the police - he's looking towards the police - while the man with the sign that says, "Nique la Police" - which means, "Fuck the Police" in Spanish - he saw me taking the photograph, and he took the opportunity to, ya know, just pose for me. But it was a quick shot, and - ya know, there was a bit of tension with the police right there the whole time, but everything remains civil and...

I later met the subject of the photo at the photo gallery in Brooklyn, so that was a cool experience, seeing him realize that he was in the photograph in a gallery, and he had no clue - and I had no idea he was there. But, um...

Yeah, that's the story behind this photograph.
